General A&A update training course

A&A Update Training Course

The CPEA A&A Update training course educates participants about new accounting, auditing, attest, review, compilation, and preparation standards, as well as other professional guidance that affect practitioners and their clients. The accelerating rate of standard setting makes it difficult to stay current on new A&A guidance, but financial statements and engagements must be compliant with the latest standards. Using active learning techniques, this comprehensive course increases the knowledge and the skills of the participants related to recent A&A professional literature.

As outlined below, the A&A Update training course comprises a full-day of instruction. This full-day session can be adapted to a half-day training course to accommodate our members’ educational needs.

Training Course Outline

  • Accounting Update. The pace of accounting standard setting continues unabatedly. Almost every new standard affects client financial reporting. In this part of the program, participants learn about recent Accounting Standards Updates (ASUs) and other guidance, as well as practical insights affecting implementation of the new standards. Changes to U.S. generally accepted accounting principles are explained. In addition, we cover when the standards become effective and how entities are expected to transition to the new requirements.

  • Audit and Attest Update. Designed to assist practitioners in keeping audit and attest engagements compliant with the latest professional literature, this segment covers recent standards issued by the Auditing Standards Board and other relevant guidance. Participants learn how to apply the latest rules to all stages of audit and attest engagements, including planning, risk assessment, performance of procedures, and reporting.

  • Review, Compilation, Preparation Update. The CPEA explains in plain English the latest standards and guidance affecting your review, compilation, and preparation engagements. Essential insights, implementation advice, and practice issues are intuitively delivered to help accountants understand the implications of the latest guidance and its impact on engagements.

  • Other Relevant Topics. Our general A&A update encompasses other topics related to financial reporting and auditing that are important for our members to be knowledgeable of to ensure their firm’s success. Examples of such topics include regulatory developments, single audit guidance, A&A considerations related to federal relief programs, ESG, peer review findings, among others.
