The AICPA Legacy Scholars Program will provide more than 100 scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year totaling more than $630,000 to deserving accounting students from across the nation. The AICPA Legacy Scholars program, which was established in 2011, awards recipients with a one-year scholarship and uses service work to help them further develop the soft skills needed to maintain a successful career. Scholarship recipients must complete at least eight hours of service each semester by planning and implementing events on campus that promote the accounting profession. Since its inception, the Legacy Scholars Program has awarded more than two million dollars in scholarships. Students accepted into the AICPA Legacy Scholars Program will receive one of four scholarship awards:
  • AICPA / Accountemps Student Scholarship

  • AICPA Foundation Two-year Transfer Scholarship

  • AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship

  • AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students

“The AICPA has a long history of providing financial support for talented accounting students as they pursue their education,” said Joanne Fiore, AICPA vice president, professional media, Academic and Student Engagement. “In addition to financial support, the Legacy Scholars Program pairs students with a coach who works with them to complete a project promoting the accounting profession. These projects help instill the spirit of volunteerism the accounting profession is known for in these students at a young age.”

Legacy Scholars are Student Affiliate Members of the AICPA, which is a free membership option available to all currently enrolled college students. Each AICPA Legacy Scholar is assigned a coach to provide guidance on the student’s service project and to advise on questions related to the profession and the work environment.

AICPA Legacy Scholarship funding is provided by the AICPA Foundation, RH/Accountemps and contributions from the New Jersey Society of CPAs, the Accounting Education Foundation of the Texas Society of CPAs, South Carolina Society of CPAs and Virgin Islands Society of CPAs.

“The AICPA Legacy Scholars program has opened the door to many opportunities for me.  Through the program, I connected with leaders in my community who have provided inspiration and encouragement on my path towards becoming a CPA,” said Jared Beltran, an AICPA Legacy Scholar and Master of Accounting student at The University of Utah – David Eccles School of Business. “Applying for this scholarship was one of the best decisions I have made in my young career and I encourage all eligible students to consider applying.”
