Statement by Barry Melancon on House Passage of Patent Reform Legislation

June 24, 2011

The following is a statement by AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon.

“The AICPA applauds the House of Representative’s passage of comprehensive patent reform legislation, H.R. 1249, the America Invents Act. The bill includes a provision fought for by the AICPA that would prevent people from attempting to patent ways to comply with U.S. tax law. House action is an important milestone following Senate approval of similar legislation earlier this year. We urge congressional leaders in the House and Senate to move swiftly on a consolidated bill. The AICPA thanks Representatives Lamar Smith and Bob Goodlatte for their leadership on this issue,” AICPA CEO and President Barry Melancon said.
