Washington (December 5, 2011) -- The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is pleased to announce that it has named Diane Helyne Zyats as director of media relations. Zyats brings to the Institute extensive communications experience focused on advocacy and targeted media strategies in the financial sector. She will work out of AICPA’s Washington, DC office.
During her two decades in communications, Zyats has designed and implemented successful communications strategies for financial companies, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, and federal agencies. Zyats has held a number of senior-level positions, including Vice President for Communications at the Homeownership Preservation Foundation and earlier at the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association, where she built ELFA's visibility among the media and policymakers. She also served as Director of Communications and Marketing in the US and UK for Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, an international law firm. Zyats’ prior experience also includes roles at Freddie Mac, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the American Bankers Association, KPMG US, and the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

Zyats earned a BA in American History/Political Science from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania and an MA in Public Policy/Government from the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Professional and cultural affiliations include roles with the National Council for Cancer Survivorship, the Shakespeare Theatre Board of Governors, and the National Press Foundation.
