Both Accounting Today and Inside Higher Education covered the release a new report from the Pathways Commission on Accounting Higher Education. The Commission, which was put into place in 2010 by the AICPA and the AAA, who co-sponsored the initiative, were tasked with studying the future structure of higher education and developing recommendations for the accounting profession. Their report on the future of higher education within the profession focused on seven main recommendations, as well as ideas on implementation. One key recommendation is to attract a more diverse population of students to the accounting profession as a whole. Accounting Today noted that Commission participants sought input from a variety of stakeholders over the past 18 months to investigate ways to enhance the opportunities and relevance of the accounting education experience. The AICPA and AAA have committed to supporting efforts to carry out these recommendations and are in the process of finalizing a strategy for conducting this effort.
