Social Security Reform

The AICPA released an in-depth report, Understanding Social Security Reform: The Issues and Alternatives, to provide a comprehensive analysis of factors to be considered in the Social Security reform debate. The report provides unbiased facts on the degree of the Social Security program’s financial problem and the impacts on the U.S. economy and society. Issues covered in the report include the relationship between Social Security and elderly living in poverty; the redistribution of income inherent in the current system; how changes to Social Security might affect income redistribution; how changes to the current system might affect decisions about when to retire; the amount of work performed in retirement; and personal savings rates.
