In November 2011, the Tax Power Hour debuted as a free, monthly presentation focused on improving practice efficiency. We added the CPE option and opened up registration to all AICPA members the following April. As you may already know, the AICPA made an Institute-wide decision to eliminate the free/no CPE option for section members to attend live CPE webcasts. This decision applies to all AICPA sections, not just tax.
According to the results of our 2015 Tax Section Membership Survey, access to webcast archives and the ability to listen to Tax Section presentations for free are among the top 10 Tax Section membership resources! Our solution was to transform the Tax Power Hour from a single one-hour monthly presentation into a comprehensive bundle of resources that would encourage our members to do more than listen to the presentations, but to take action and work on their practice, not just in their practice. The new expanded Tax Power Hour is all about YOU: the member! We provide the resources; you choose the hour that works best for you. The monthly CPE webcast will continue as the Tax Practice Monthly, discounted (of course) for Tax Section members.
The archive will be released the following month as one of several new Tax Power Hour resources available exclusively for Tax Section members, including:
- Tax Q&A Monthly – a live town hall style Q&A event as a virtual follow up to the Tax Practice Monthly webcast. It will be a web-based Q&A session featuring webcast speakers, experienced practitioners and other experts, moderated by AICPA staff. Seats are limited and registration will be required, and participation is for Tax Section members only.
- Tax Power Chat – a new podcast series featuring webcast speakers, thought leaders, experienced practitioners, and other experts.
- Other resources – a new section-only resource will be released during each Tax Practice Monthly webcast and will be available for download after the webcast from the Tax Power Hour page.
At the beginning of each month, registration for the Tax Q&A Monthly will open on a first come, first serve basis (seats are limited, so register early). We will post the webcast archive from the previous month along with a mix of resources on that same topic, including the new Tax Power Chat podcast. We will also provide links to articles, blogs, tools, and related products. Our goal is to provide you with a little inspiration, along with the tools and resources to turn ideas into action. It’s your power hour. You decide what time works best you, and we provide the tools to help you focus that time on making your practice better.
The new Tax Q&A Monthly will debut next month. The topic will be document management for tax practitioners and will focus on issues raised during this month’s Tax Practice Monthly webcast. We encourage you to block off an hour in your September calendar to immerse yourself in the topic – listen to the archive (or attend the event live for discounted CPE), visit the new Tax Power Hour page and browse the articles, blogs, and resources. Then, bring your questions, ideas, and other feedback to the new Tax Q&A Monthly. Registration will open on Tuesday, September 1. Hope you can join us!
