Building Partnerships with Our Clients
Chaffins, Batdorf & Austell, LLC was formed when my partners and I came together after years of working as sole practitioners. We wanted to combine our individual knowledge and expertise to provide the highest level of quality and service to our clients. I believe that is what sets our firm apart from other firms is the emphasis we place on client relationships. We use the word ‘partner’ to describe this relationship, and really strive to become a strategic partner for each client. As CPAs, we are uniquely qualified to help businesses in number of ways. Too often when the public thinks of CPA services they think about compliance services, however there is an even greater benefit to the client when they utilize us in other areas as well. CPAs come with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Equally important to the client is when a CPA moves beyond compliance and into consulting, management assistance and strategic decision making. At Chaffins, Batdorf & Austell, we focus on building the ways we can help our clients beyond typical compliance services.
Leveraging Technology to Address Challenges
I have just completed my 38th tax season. It is hard to believe the drastic changes that have occurred in the profession in those years. I may be showing my age, but I can remember preparing tax returns by hand in my first job out of college. Today that is unimaginable given the capability of tax software and computers. We are able to leverage these capabilities to address many of the challenges that come along with running a practice. For example, almost two years ago, one of partners’ husband was transferred to Texas and she was going to be moving. Instead of losing this critical member of our firm, we were able to retain her through utilizing technology solutions. By using VOIP, remote access software, Skype, etc., it feels like she is still physically in the office. Truly, CPAs are no longer restricted by geography.
My time in the profession has flown by, and I am amazed by the advancements that I have seen over the years. This is such an exciting time for our profession, and I am looking forward to see what the future holds for us. CPAs are some of the hardest working, most dedicated and conscientious people you will ever meet, and I am proud to be among them.
Why We Joined PCPS
PCPS offers support in all areas of practice. I appreciate the resources available to me through the PCPS website and interaction with their staff. It is common to find that we are only utilizing a fraction of the capabilities of the software we own, and I believe this is also true of PCPS resources. There is so much available to us as members. I have implemented several of the toolkits available, and have found the staff and practice management information in the Human Capital Center especially useful.
One major benefit of our PCPS membership has been our involvement with the PCPS Networking Groups. I have personally been involved with the 2002 PCPS Small Firm Networking Group for the past year and a half, though the firm has been a member of the group for several years. The group meets twice a year, and everyone involved is very helpful, encouraging and supportive. These meetings provide a forum to discuss the issues that are affecting our firms, and receive solutions or advice on how to tackle these issues. The sense of comradery and idea sharing at each meeting is truly invaluable.
