Connecting In Our Communities
KerberRose is based in Northeast Wisconsin across seven offices in smaller-sized communities.  We love our small communities and the ability to get involved, make connections and really know our clients.  While we are a collection of smaller offices, we have the resources of a larger firm with eleven partners and fifty-five employees.  Our size enables us to make connections in our communities and offer a breadth of expertise and specialized services to our clients.  With today’s technology, we’re able to work outside the confinement of our office walls, which allows us increased collaboration with each other and our clients.

Something else that makes us unique is that we conduct a significant number of peer reviews throughout the year.  We pride ourselves in offering best practices for other CPA firms during the peer review process and appreciate the ability to network with other CPA firms across the country as a result of this peer-to-peer service.  As we conduct peer reviews, we learn something new from every CPA firm and find something that we can take back to our firm so we can improve, too.

Firm Fun
At KerberRose, we like to have fun together through several firm-wide events each year.  The most popular event is our team member appreciation party we hold in November.  Everyone in the firm attends plus their significant others and children.  We meet at a hotel, spend the night and relax and have a good time together.  The firm pays for the hotel room for each employee and sponsors a children’s room with games and pizza, so staff can enjoy themselves knowing their children are taken care of under the same roof.

We also host a golf outing and encourage people to participate whether they are golfers or not by running the putting contest for United Way, driving the beverage cart or simply hanging out.  We are big believers in wellness campaigns, too.  We participate in many walks and runs throughout the year (sporting our KerberRose t-shirts!) and offer wellness incentives for a certain number of steps taken in a day, losing weight, participating in the walks/runs, etc.  And, we believe in giving back to our community because our communities have given so much to us.  Our team members volunteer in many places like food banks, Habitat for Humanity, and the United Way.

Favorite PCPS Member Benefit
My favorite PCPS resource is the Human Capital Center.  We have leveraged many of the tools, like the employee handbook and evaluation forms, that help us create structure and consistency in our staffing programs and improve communication across offices.  After all, our firm is built on people, so we appreciate as much assistance as we can get to develop and invest in our employees and demonstrate to our staff how valuable they are to our firm!

I also have to share that participating in the various AICPA and PCPS committees has been a tremendous experience for me.  The Technical Issues Committee (TIC) has been the best professional experience I’ve ever had.  The depth of knowledge in that community and the opportunity PCPS makes available for small and mid-sized firms to provide feedback to standard setters has been invaluable to our firm and our ability to serve our clients.  I’m a huge fan of the Financial Reporting Framework for SMEs (FRF-SMEs) and appreciate that the AICPA has provided this new tool that we can use to help our clients understand their financial reporting and serve them better.  The PCPS Executive Committee has also been a great opportunity to network and learn from other firm members.  I always bring something back from those meetings that make KerberRose a better firm.  I encourage other CPAs to find a place to get involved and contribute within PCPS and the AICPA, and also to take advantage of the tremendous opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.

We believe in giving back at KerberRose – to our communities, our staff and our profession.  And we have truly reaped the rewards and receive ten times more than we give!
