In 2013, the Supreme Court issued rulings on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and on California’s Proposition 8. As a result of these rulings, and ongoing changes in many states allowing for same-sex marriages, the personal financial planning process has become more complex.  Same-sex couples need competent and informed advisers to help them navigate the regulatory morass and the personal financial planning process. Additionally, existing financial plans need to be reviewed in light of these changes. In this webcast, Tom Tillery will discuss:

  • An overview of the Windsor Decision, DOMA, and their application to same-sex couples and the personal financial planning process.
  • A review of the various regulatory changes created by the Supreme Court’s decision.
  • Actionable personal financial planning strategies for same-sex couples, including estate, retirement, income tax, risk management and health and welfare benefit plans.
  • First party sources and additional resources for personal financial planning for same-sex couples
