Mike Harreld is presently executive vice president and chief financial officer of Southern Company’s Transmission Business Unit. Mike also has company-wide responsibility for a new enterprise resource plan and for efficiency improvements in accounting, finance, and treasury.
Harreld has also served as Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer for Georgia Power. He joined Georgia Power Company as comptroller in 1982 after working with the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen, LLP. He has also served as CFO of Mirant (formerly Southern Energy, Inc.) - Europe, Finance Director of South Western Electricity PLC in the UK, and CFO and comptroller of Southern Company Generation and Energy Marketing.
Harreld was recognized by the Georgia Society of CPAs as Outstanding Member in Industry for 2007. He also presented “Southern Company: A Journey of Improvement” to China Grid Company at the International Power Forum in Beijing in June of 2007; received the Kellogg Volunteer Award from Metro-Atlanta YMCA Board, recognizing 30 years of service to the Metro YMCA and its branches; and helped establish and chair YES! Atlanta, an organization helping disadvantaged teenagers experience success.
Harreld holds a BS in Commerce from the University of Kentucky and an MA in Accounting from the University of Missouri. In addition, he is a certified public accountant and attended the Stanford Executive Program. A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, he is married with three young adult children. He enjoys Kentucky basketball and running.
