Kenneth Merchant honored with AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award

The AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Awards recognizes full-time college accounting professors who excel as educators and who have achieved national prominence in the accounting profession. In 2014, this year's honoree was recognized at the AAA's Annual Meeting Awards Luncheon in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Ken Merchant, CPA, CGMA, holds the Deloitte & Touche LLP Chair of Accountancy at the University of Southern California. He teaches in the Executive and Graduate Business and Accounting Programs. Previously, he served as Senior Associate Dean-Corporate Programs in the USC Marshall School of Business and as Dean of the USC Leventhal School of Accounting.  He has also worked as a freelance consultant/teacher for many organizations.

Professor Merchant’s research interests are in the areas of management accounting, management control systems, corporate governance, and ethics. He has published 11 books and monographs, as well as numerous journal articles and teaching cases. He is currently serving as a member of the editorial boards of 13 academic research journals.

Professor Merchant has served as President of three AAA sections: Accounting Program Leadership Group; Management Accounting; and Accounting, Behavior and Organizations. He is currently serving as the chair of the AAA Professionalism and Ethics Committee, on the Research Board of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of the U.K. (CIMA), and on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD).

He is a graduate of Union College (BA), Columbia University (MBA), and the University of California, Berkeley (PhD). He is a Certified Public Accountant (Texas) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and he holds a NACD Certificate of Director Education.
