The Women’s Initiative Executive Committee (WIEC) has developed several formal and informal resources to help CPA firms and companies develop women’s initiatives programs to attract and retain talent.
- CPA Firm Gender Survey
As part of its effort to provide resources to firms to support the retention and advancement of their female talent, WIEC gathered benchmark data on the status of female professionals within public accounting firms and on firm programs aimed at advancing females to leadership positions.
- Advocacy and Advancement
This survey was designed to gather information about the frequency and nature of advocacy relationships, characteristics of advocates and their protégés, and to examine the effects that an advocate’s presence holds on their protégé’s professional advancement.

The newest tool available to AICPA members, the AICPA Online Mentoring Program allows participants to seek a mentor outside of their organization, who can help level the playing field for women, minorities, and young professionals. Using an online platform makes a mentoring relationship interaction easier to fit into busy schedules, creating beneficial and successful outcomes. This toolkit serves as a stand-alone guide for accounting firms to develop and implement strategies that facilitate the development and retention of female talent. WIEC is establishing a pilot program with a few firms to help them apply and share existing best practices, share their progress, successes and lessons learned with the profession in an effort to promote the success of women, inspire other firms and create a ripple effect in our profession.
