Meet Team AICPA

    Meet Team AICPA: Heather

    Name: Heather
    Title: Director - Governance
    Office: Durham, NC
    Team: Office of the CEO

How did you learn about the AICPA?
I read about the AICPA relocating to Durham six years ago on wral.com and routinely visited ‘Career Opportunities at the AICPA’ on aicpa.org

How long have you been employed with the AICPA?
I celebrated my five year anniversary with the AICPA in May 2012

Why did you decide to come to the AICPA?
I decided to join the AICPA because of the people, the opportunity for development, and the security of working for a 125 year old company.

Why do you like working at the AICPA?
At the AICPA, I am fortunate to work with some of the most talented and passionate people I have ever met. I joined the AICPA on the Member Value team, was promoted to the Academic & Career Awareness team and recently was promoted to Office of the CEO.  AICPA offers employees opportunities for growth and advancement.

What cool projects have you worked on at the AICPA?
On the Academic & Career Awareness team, I supervised StartHereGoPlaces.com and ThisWaytoCPA.com, websites that help inspire the next generation of CPAs. I accepted a new role January 1, 2013, as Director of Governance, in which  I will work closely with senior volunteer leadership on the Board of Directors and Governing Council.

What is your favorite perk/benefit about working at the AICPA?
I have a young family and the AICPA understands that work/life balance is important to me. If I need to take time off for my family, it is never an issue.

What’s unique about working at the AICPA as compared to other employers?
The Academic & Career Awareness team was truly a team. Collectively, we worked on initiatives that made a difference in the lives of students and young CPAs across the country.

Name an AICPA membership program or activity you work on and its significance to the profession.
Whether attracting students to major in accounting and pursue the CPA profession via our dedicated online resources, or nurturing CPAs throughout their professional careers, via initiatives such as the Leadership Academy, people are AICPA’s number one priority. Today, I am privileged to work closely with the leaders who define this wonderful profession.
