AICPA Honored for Training Programs
T he Institute received the Business Champions Award from Business Leader Magazine.

The award, sponsored in part by Wake Technical Community College, recognizes the AICPA’s Durham, N.C., office for its quality training and orientation programs, which help employees support members and respond to a wide range of professional issues. Anthony Pugliese, senior vice president–finance & administration, accepted the award on behalf of the Institute from Stephen C. Scott of Wake Technical Community College.

Feed the Pig” Wins Communicator Awards
The AICPA received awards for its “Feed the Pig” campaign that encourages young, working Americans to save money.

Two public service announcements won Video Awards of Excellence in the 13th Annual Communicator Awards competition. Awards of Distinction went to another “Feed the Pig” TV spot and the behind-the-scenes documentary.

The Communicator Awards, founded by communication professionals, is an international competition recognizing creative excellence.

AICPA Board Commends Hero
Board Commends Hero
Marcella Wyler, a member of the Institute’s finance team, helped rescue a woman whose car ran off the road and landed upside-down in several feet of water on Feb. 14 near the AICPA’s offices in Durham, N.C. Wyler and another rescuer jumped into a frigid swamp to pull the trapped woman to safety.

The AICPA Board of Directors issued a resolution commending Wyler for her heroism and sacrifice in saving another human being.

Professor Receives Lifetime Contribution Award
Professor Receives Lifetime Contribution Award
William L. Ferrara received the 2007 Lifetime Contribution to Management Accounting Award from the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association.

The award, sponsored by the AICPA, recognizes individuals who have made a significant mark on management accounting education, research and practice.

Ferrara is Professor of Accounting Emeritus at Stetson University and Penn State University. Prior to his retirement, he was the David M. Beights Professor of Accounting at Stetson University.

His areas of research interest focused on integrating financial planning and control systems with external financial reports.

Ferrara also served as the first section president for the Management Accounting Section of the AAA and as the editor of the Journal of Management Accounting Research from 1989 to 1991.
