If JofA staff looks a bit more relaxed than you'd expect for deadline-driven people, there's good reason. When this picture was taken we had just put the finishing touches on this issue. As you can see, the JofA has greatly expanded coverage for members in business and industry.

But new is not unusual for the JofA. We have worked to keep pace as the profession has been transformed through a surge of dramatic changes in the last decade. Some of the pronounced ones: Technology has altered forever the way CPAs do business; professionals once computerphobic are now Internet virtuosi. The education a CPA got in the 1980s is a fraction of what he or she needs to know today. CPAs in industry have burst out of a once narrowly defined area and become corporate strategic planners and decision makers. CPAs everywhere are doing more for their clients and their employers because the marketplace demands more.

It's clear that more and faster changes will take place. Just read The CPA Vision 2011 and Beyond (see JofA, Dec.98, for the full report) to see the course the profession has set for itself in the coming decade. The JofA's mission is explicit: Publish the practical, how-to articles and information you need to succeed in this business environment. How can we do the best job? The answer is, with your help. We extend an invitation to you to let us know what subject areas or specific articles you'd like to see in the JofA. E-mail us at journal@aicpa.org or call us ar 201-938-3456, my direct line. We hope to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Colleen Katz
