A Special New Year’s Thought from the AICPA

Happy New Year From the AICPA

As the year draws to a close, we’d like to thank you for being an AICPA member. We’re grateful you are part of a community that’s 412,000 strong. Our goal every year is to provide each of you with the advocacy, programs and support that reinforce your contribution as one of America’s trusted financial professionals.

With 2016 around the corner, we have numerous exciting initiatives to highlight. Here’s a peek:

Efforts to boost the CPA pipeline will be expanded and enhanced. Our presence in support of the CPA credential on college campuses will increase. New outreach will include community colleges, and we will build relationships with academics to spread awareness of a career as a CPA.

Resources will be developed to help CPA firms deliver enhanced audit quality to their clients. Additional learning opportunities, certificate programs and guidance are already underway.

New services in response to evolving marketplace needs are critically important to the profession’s continued relevance. Resources and guidance to support advisory and assurance services in emerging opportunities will be released.

Consideration will be given to ways we can do even more with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, our current joint venture partner and the worldwide leader in management accounting. Among the benefits of a deeper relationship are additional resources for professional accountants working in the corporate arena and other environments.

Advocacy activities related to tax, accounting, auditing and other professional services at the heart of our profession remain a priority.

Changes to the Uniform CPA Examination will be announced, and they'll be implemented with the next version of the exam in 2017. These changes, supported by research and feedback, will help our profession continue to protect the public by increasing assessment of the types of higher-level thinking needed by newly licensed CPAs in today’s environment.

For a closer look at the profession’s accomplishments and initiatives to help advance the profession for the future, read this Q&A with AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA.

We welcome you to share your thoughts on the blog post as we join together for a dynamic new year. And don’t forget to make time to throw the confetti and crank up the noisemakers! All of us at the AICPA hope 2016 brings good health, happiness and wonderful things to each and every one of you.
