    Dan Deines Honored with Special Recognition Award from the AICPA 

    Kansas CPA recognized for contributions to accounting education

    New Orleans (Aug. 8, 2014)  – The American Institute of CPAs today honored Dr. Dan Deines, Ph.D., CPA, Ralph Crouch / KPMG Professor of Accounting at Kansas State University, as a winner of the Special Recognition Award. The AICPA’s Special Recognition Award is given to an individual who has contributed to the success of a particular professional initiative - contributions of an outstanding nature. 

    The award was bestowed upon Deines today by AICPA Chairman Bill Balhoff, CPA, CGMA, at the AICPA’s E.D.G.E. Conference in New Orleans.

    “Throughout his career, Dan Deines has worked tirelessly towards his vision of a professional accounting course for high school students and has helped rally the profession around this concept,” said Balhoff. “With an impressive resume of developing programs aimed to recruit high-performing students to the accounting profession, Dan’s dedication to improving the quality of accounting education makes him a fitting recipient of the Special Recognition Award.”

    Dr. Deines’ passion for developing programs to recruit high-quality students to the accounting profession began in 1989. His dedication to teaching and the profession has been continuously demonstrated throughout his career, and he has served on several AICPA and Kansas Society of CPAs (KSCPA) task forces and committees related to education.

    He has served as the former chair of the AICPA’s Accounting Careers Subcommittee and has previously volunteered as a member of AICPA’s Accounting Education Executive Committee, Leadership Development Task Force, Financial Literacy Commission , Member Advisory Panel, Pre-education Certification Committee and as a participant in the Pathways Supply Chain initiative. Deines was previously honored with the AICPA Educator’s Award.

    Dr. Deines is the only educator to serve as the chair of the KSCPA, and he continues to attend and to participate in all leadership activities of the society.

    Deines is the 23nd recipient of the Special Recognition Award which was established in 1999. Past recipients of the Special Recognition Award are listed on the AICPA’s web site
