AICPA Expands Live Broadcast Options for Professional Education

More Webcasts, More Ways to Bring Quality Educational Offerings to CPAs’ Desktops
    Published June 26, 2013

NEW YORK (June 26, 2013) – Professional development is critical for a career in accounting or finance, but sometimes travelling to a conference or other educational event isn’t an option. To maximize learning opportunities, the American Institute of CPAs is dramatically increasing its webcast options for CPAs.

“CPAs value flexibility,” said Clar Rosso, the AICPA’s vice president of member learning and competency. “Whether you’re looking to attend every moment of a conference virtually or only want to attend select sessions, we have options for you. Plus, the AICPA offers an array of webcasts daily that range in length from one to eight hours, providing a number of different ways for CPAs to build career skills and better serve their clients or employers.”

Financial professionals who sign up for AICPA virtual conferences—such as the National Advanced Accounting and Auditing Technical Symposium (July 11-12), the Advanced Estate Planning Conference (July 15-17) and the National Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update East Conference (Aug. 12-13)—can now build a schedule that precisely fits their needs. Options include:

    ·         Full roster of conference activities. Participants can watch or listen to live broadcasts of keynotes and major panels and choose among simultaneous breakout sessions, just as if they were attending the conference in person.

    ·         Mini-packs. Looking for a narrower focus at a lower cost? Choose a set number of online sessions—options range from six to nine, depending on the conference—over the course of a single event.

    ·         Pre-conference workshops. As an add-on to the options above or on their own, workshops offer a unique opportunity to drill down into subject areas and hone specific skills.

CPAs also have a wider range of choices on webcasts, including new virtual 4-hour and 8-hour seminars.  These courses offer in-depth training, in either audio or video format, on such topics as health care reform or the new clarified auditing standards. A downloadable manual guides participants through the course material.

Shorter duration webcasts include the Tax Power Hour, a monthly hour-long audio session on a single topic. And the AICPA also offers a number of webcast series, such as the quarterly Advanced Accounting & Auditing Update for Non-Public Entities, which provides timely briefings on changes in rules and regulatory standards for private companies and not-for-profits.
