Tax and Economic Implications of Supercommittee Failure - AICPA Webcast

Published November 29, 2011

Join nationally recognized budget expert Stan Collender and tax expert Mel Schwarz for a discussion about what’s next, now that the supercommittee has failed to produce an agreement to reduce the deficit.

WHO: Stan Collender, Qorvis partner, and Mel Schwarz, Grant Thornton LLP partner and director of Tax Legislative Affairs, as well as chair of the AICPA Tax Legislation and Policy Committee.

WHAT:
  • What is  the likelihood of across-the-board cuts as required by law since the supercommittee failed to reach an agreement?  What other options do Congress or President Obama have?
  • How badly have the markets been spooked by the political process and what impact might this have on things like interest rates, stock prices, and credit ratings?
  • Where are we now with potential tax law changes – what extenders will survive?
  • What impact will the upcoming elections have on tax reform and tax cuts?

WHEN:
  Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. ET

Registration is free unless CPE credit is desired.  Those who want the one available CPE credit will be charged $49 if they are AICPA members or $59 if they are not AICPA members.

Reporters who would like to register for the audio webcast should contact Shirley Twillman, senior manager of AICPA media relations, at stwillman@aicpa.org or 202.434.9220.
