How to Control the Costs of Kids' Extracurricular Activities

Published December 14, 2012

Andrea Murad, a Fox Business Reporter, sought out the expertise of  Clare Levison, CPA, a member of the AICPA’s National CPA Financial Literacy Commission, when looking for tips to help parents whose children are heavily involved in afterschool activities stay on budget.

Levison recommends that when your child wants to try something new, you should take advantage of free trial months whenever possible. This gives your child a chance to try it before you lay out money for registration fees, uniforms and equipment. “By the end of the month, you’ll know if that’s something your child’s really interested in,” she said.
