Beware of Phishing Scams During Busy Season

Published February 08, 2017

During busy season, phishing scams may increase in an attempt to obtain taxpayers’ personal and financial information. Recently, there have been reported incidents of fraudulent emails purporting to be from AICPA senior leaders. If you receive any emails that seem unexpected or inappropriate, ask you to click on a link, contain grammatical errors or typos, or make you uncomfortable in any way, you should not respond. Never open an attachment or click on any links. To verify that an email is actually from the AICPA, see our Security and Privacy webpage. In addition, the IRS will never call or email clients requesting personal information or mentioning a lawsuit or other action. Information on protecting personal tax data also is available from the IRS website.
