Alert: Fraudulent Email Scam

    Published December 07, 2012

On Friday, December 7, 2012, the AICPA became aware of a fraudulent email phishing scam that was sent to numerous individuals, CPAs, non-CPAs and members of the general public. The email incorporated an AICPA banner and referenced the recipient’s possible involvement in an income tax fraud activity and possible termination of licenses, and instructed the recipient to click on a link to provide clarifying information. The fraudulent email is not from the AICPA.

If you receive the email, delete it immediately and do not click on the link.

If you clicked on the link in the email, we suggest you run a full virus scan of your system. Even if you did not click on the link, it is always prudent to make sure your virus protection is up to date. We also encourage you to proactively take steps to protect yourself from email and online fraud.

To speak with an AICPA member service specialist regarding this matter call 888.777.7077 and select option 1.
