Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop

About the Workshop

The AICPA Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop is an annual invitational program for minority accounting students who plan to pursue the CPA designation. This event aims to strengthen students’ professional skills and understanding of the limitless possibilities and benefits of earning the CPA credential. Through speakers, panel discussions and interactive programs, participants gain confidence and an enhanced understanding of the various career paths with the accounting profession to prepare them for the steps that follow graduation.

An all-expenses paid event, the AICPA covers the cost of student attendees’ transportation, hotel accommodation and meals.

2009 Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop

WHAT: A fantastic opportunity for students to learn about the CPA profession and increase their professional skills

WHO: 100 students and accounting professionals in academia, public, business and industry

DATE: May 28-30, 2009

WHERE: Peachtree City, GA

Eligibility Requirements

Students must meet the following criteria to attend:

  • Declared accounting or tax major who intends to pursue the CPA credential
  • Junior, Senior, 5th Year, or Graduate student for the 2009-2010 academic year
  • Maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Actively involved in campus and/or community activities
  • An ethnic minority (Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; Native American; or Asian)
  • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder)
  • Have not attended a past workshop

Q: How do I apply to attend this event? 
A. Eligible students should complete and submit a data sheet by April 25. Download data sheet.

Q: How do I apply to attend this event? 
A. Registration information will be posted on this Web site in February 2009. To receive future communications related to this program, email MIC_Programs@aicpa.org.

Q: If I am graduating in May 2009, may I still attend the workshop?
A: Yes: in fact, this is an ideal time for graduating students to participate as they will be embarking soon on their professional paths and will benefit from the development of networking skills, knowledge of the profession and tips for passing the CPA Exam.

Q: If I have attended a past AICPA Workshop, may I come back?
A: To enable as many students as possible to have this experience, students who have attended a previous workshop may not attend.

Q: What if I have another obligation for May 28-30, 2009 and still want to attend this program?
A: Students are required to attend the workshop for the full 2 ˝ days. However, we are able to provide your employer or teacher with information regarding the content and benefit of your participation in this program.

Q: May I attend if I am already a CPA?
A: No, those persons who are already CPAs are not eligible to attend as participants.
