Getting Involved

Ask not what we can do for you...

Actually, the question of the moment is what you can do for you – and for your profession. And while we’re at it, the whole wide world.

Seriously. One of the hallmarks of the CPA profession has been the willingness of CPAs to get involved in their communities, and serve as advocates for their clients, their profession and the public at large. Our industry has thrived for decades – more than a century, actually – because people like us have taken it upon themselves to serve as its stewards.

It’s a sappy-but-true fact that people who give of themselves and their time almost always report getting much more in return.

But it’s not all about philanthropy. Selfish as it may sound, there’s also a “what’s in it for me?” angle. Because there are lots of ways to give back while taking advantage of (and honing) your professional skills. You can explore a new specialty area, exercise and demonstrate leadership skills, even do a little networking that could lead to great business connections.

Ready to do some good? You can get involved in everything from promoting financial literacy to helping develop policy to shepherding a business or non-profit by serving on its board of directors. And you can take advantage of opportunities at the local, state and national level.
