November 15, 2011 AICPA Webinar on Client Review Meeting Essentials

    Date:  November 15, 2011 at 3:30 pm e.t.
    Duration:  1 hour
Speakers:  Lisa Featherngill, Robert Keebler, Martin Shenkman, Scott Sprinkle

2011 has certainly proven to be a tumultuous year. Year-end is the opportune time for CPA financial planners to help clients make critical financial and estate planning decisions and take advantage of income tax and estate planning opportunities as the year comes to a close. Turmoil and uncertainty require a two-pronged planning approach: (1) creative planning; and (2) careful monitoring and administration of existing plans. Practitioners should encourage clients to come in for year-end planning meetings but then encourage upkeep and maintenance of existing planning to protect assets from the heightened litigation risks recession brings, and secure tax and other planning objectives.

During this web seminar, the panel walked people through all of the elements that need to be covered in an annual client review meeting to ensure that all areas of the client’s plan, including asset protection (which every client should address), estate, retirement, tax, investments and insurance, are properly covered. Topics included:

    • Assuring compliance with terms of trusts
    • Adhering to entity formalities to preserve asset protection and tax benefits
    • Dealing with economic turmoil
    • Modifying planning to address ever changing laws
    • Revising plan for changed circumstances
    • Integrating new planning techniques
    • Organization of essential documents
    • CPA as quarterback for the advisory team - working with other advisors
    • Ensuring the client takes action on implementing recommendations

Anyone may attend this seminar for free without receiving CPE credit. The cost for non-AICPA members to attend and receive CPE credit is $75. The cost for AICPA members to attend and receive CPE credit is $65. The cost for PFP section members (inclusive of PFS credential holders) and Tax section members to attend and receive CPE credit is $50. CPE credit will be available for purchase as late as two weeks after the event.
