PFS Credential Referral Program

The CPA/PFS represents the pinnacle of excellence for CPAs offering tax, estate, retirement, risk management, or investment planning to their individual and closely held business clients; integrating the CPA foundation of integrity, objectivity, and competence with the specialized expertise of personal financial planning.

“If every PFS credential holder made just one referral this year, we would
have an explosion in the number of credential holders  and what a message
that would send to the CPA and financial planning community!”

    - Lisa Featherngill, CPA/PFS, past PFS Credential Committee Chair

    Referral Program Objective

Our current CPA/PFS credential holders are the backbone of the program and we are rewarding current CPA/PFS credential holders for referring other CPAs to either:
    • become a CPA/PFS credential holder; or
    • sit for the PFS exam
Every CPA/PFS credential holder making a qualifying referral will receive a $350 credit against their future CPA/PFS credential dues.  There is no limit on the number of referrals anyone can make.  Make 10 referrals and have a decade of CPA/PFS dues paid in advance.

    CPA/PFS Credential Referrals

    PFS Exam Referrals

    Qualification

Dues credit is granted when the referred CPA/PFS application is approved. Dues credit is granted after the applicant takes the PFS exam (not just register for it).

    How to Refer

Have the referred CPA/PFS applicant include your name and AICPA member number in the referral information box on the CPA/PFS application.  If they apply online, they should send an email with that information to PFS@aicpa.org within 5 business days.  When the exam referral registers for the PFS exam on CPA2Biz, they should also send an email to financialplanning@aicpa.org with the referring CPA/PFS name and AICPA member number.

    Deadlines

Referrals received by April 1 each year will be applied against the upcoming year's PFS dues. For example, referrals received up to 4/1/2013 would be credited against 2013-14 PFS dues.

Referrals received after April 1 each year will be applied against the following year's PFS dues (and beyond if more than one referral). For example, referrals received after 4/1/2013 would be credited against 2014-15 PFS dues.

Referral information should be e-mailed within 5 business days of the date of the PFS exam registration. The exam registration deadline for 2013 is June10 or December 23, 2013 for the summer and winter exams respectively.  The credit will be applied against the 2014-2015 CPA/PFS dues (and beyond if more than one referral).

    Using the Dues Credits

If you have a CPA/PFS dues credit applied, you will not see the CPA/PFS credential dues of $350 on your dues statement.  You will receive a separate email indicating that your CPA/PFS dues have already been paid for the year.  If you have any remaining dues credits to be applied in future years, they will be listed in the email as well.  If you have any questions, please contact financialplanning@aicpa.org.

This is an excellent opportunity to talk to your CPA colleagues about the CPA/PFS credential - -

    • If they already hold a CFP or ChFC designation, they likely already meet all of the qualifications.
    • If they do not, encourage them to prepare for and take the PFS exam.

Support the CPA/PFS credential and help us grow our numbers by taking advantage of this program, the CPA/PFS Pathway education and exam preparation options!  To learn more, visit aicpa.org/PFP/PFS.
