Information Technology Section Has A New Name

    To better align the Section’s name with members’ services and roles within their firms and organizations, Council approved renaming the IT Section to the Information Management and Technology Assurance Member Section (IMTA). Information management involves the management of data, integration of systems and business reporting.  Technology assurance addresses the risks, controls and governance associated with technology. You will see updates to the website, collateral, newsletters and other resources in the coming months.


    Why did the AICPA change the name of the IT Section?

    There has been increased member confusion over the name of the Section. To better align the Section name with the services and responsibilities of our members within their firms and organizations, we changed the name to Information Management and Technology Assurance.

    Did the AICPA seek input from its members?

    Yes. There were additional questions on the 2012 Top Technology Initiative survey. They were included to help us understand the terms our members use to describe what they do and those that were most closely aligned to the issues addressed in the survey.


    When will the new Section name become official?

    There will be a comprehensive communications rollout to members in December. At that time, the website, Section logo, select collateral, newsletters and other communications pieces will carry the new name: Information Management and Technology Assurance.


    Will the name of the CITP credential change?

    No, the name of the CITP credential will not change.
