Dear Center Members
Required GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Now Available with CPE and No-CPE Option
Background
Webcast Information and Options
After reading this Governmental Audit Quality Center (GAQC) Alert, you will understand:
- How to access an archive of the GAQC’s required 2010 GAQC Annual Webcast Update (Webcast) either for 3 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) or with a “no-CPE option.”
- The importance of viewing the Webcast by each member firm’s designated audit quality partner (DAQP) or each state audit organization (SAO) designated audit quality leader (DAQL).
- That the Webcast is also useful to both firm and SAO staff that are not serving in the DAQP or DAQL role.
Background
The GAQC Webcast covers the latest developments in governmental and not-for-profit organization (NPO) audits, including single audits, for the purpose of preparing our members for the 2010 audit season. The viewing of the Webcast is a GAQC membership requirement for each DAQP and DAQL. It is also a valuable resource for member staff that are not serving in the DAQP or DAQL role. While we know that many of our DAQPs, DAQLs, and their staff took the encouraged approach to view the live Webcast, we also know that schedules are busy and not everyone was able to do so. Therefore, the GAQC is once again providing our members with the option of purchasing (for a small fee) a self-study course titled,
GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Update On-Demand Self-Study Course that will provide 3 hours of for viewing the archived Webcast. Additionally, we are also offering a no-CPE option for those members that view the archived Webcast but would prefer not to receive CPE. Read on for more details and how to take advantage of both options.

Webcast Information and Options
Who is Eligible to Take the GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Update On-Demand Self-Study Course?
The
GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Update On-Demand Self-Study Course is available to DAQPs, DAQLs, and their staff that:
- Did not yet view the live or archived version of the Webcast; or
- Viewed the live version of the Webcast but did not purchase the optional CPE; or
- Viewed the archived version of the Webcast that has been available on the GAQC Web site for the last few months.
Note that if you already participated in the live version of the Webcast and purchased the related optional CPE at that time, you may not obtain additional CPE for taking this self-study course because it would be duplicative.
Is There More Involved to the Self-Study Course Than Viewing the Webcast?
Yes. To offer the Webcast as a self-study CPE course there are certain requirements that must be met to comply with joint AICPA and National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) CPE rules. Therefore, in addition to viewing the Webcast, you must also complete a series of review questions, as well as a final examination. For this reason, the CPE hours allotted for the self-study course (based on independent testing of the course prior to its issuance) provides one additional hour of CPE than the live offering of the Webcast provided (i.e., the live Webcast provided 2 hours of CPE and the self-study course will provide 3 hours of CPE).
Can I Take This Self-Study Course for CPE if I Previously Viewed the Live or Archived Version of the 2010 Webcast?
It depends. As noted earlier, if you already participated in the live version of the Webcast and purchased the related optional CPE at that time, you may not obtain additional CPE for taking this self-study course because it would be duplicative. However, if you participated in the live offering of the Webcast and did not purchase CPE or you already viewed the archived Webcast that was recently made available on the GAQC Web site (i.e., the no-CPE option), you can take advantage of the GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Update On-Demand Self-Study Course and purchase the CPE. As mentioned earlier, you will be required to answer a series of review questions and take a final examination.
How Do I Access the GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Update On-Demand Self-Study Course and How Much Does it Cost?
The GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Update On-Demand Self-Study Course provides 3 hours of CPE and the cost is $99.
We encourage you to forward this link to your staff that have an interest in earning CPE for viewing the archived Webcast as we believe it will provide them with a good update of the latest matters they will need to consider for their 2010 governmental and NPO audits.
Is There Still a Way to Access the Archived Webcast Without Purchasing CPE?
Yes. As has always been the case, you or your staff can view the archived version of the Webcast by accessing it directly through the GAQC Web site. Click here to access the no-CPE option of the GAQC Webcast and the related instructions for viewing it. There is no fee for viewing the archived version of the Webcast in this manner. However, you will not earn CPE.
One Last Word About the Importance of the Webcast
While only DAQPs and DAQLs must view the Webcast to meet the related GAQC membership requirement, the Webcast is also intended to assist your staff that perform governmental and NPO audits, including single audits. Even if your staff does not need the CPE that is being offered with this self-study course, we recommend that you at least encourage them to view the no-CPE option version of the archived Webcast if they have not already done so.
We hope that you continue to find this member benefit to be of value. If you have any questions about the new GAQC 2010 Annual Webcast Update On-Demand Self-Study Course or the Webcast in general, please send your inquiry to gaqc@aicpa.org. As always, thank you for your continued commitment to governmental audit quality.
