The math-based curriculum introduces nine to eleven year old students to responsible financial decision making. The coursework reinforces math skills with real-life applications, like tracking expenses and balancing a checkbook. Students will be joined by the Bankes Piglets, 12 dynamic and diverse “saver and spender” characters, who help them analyze financial habits and create responsible financial plans. Feed the Pig for Tweens includes The Great Piglet Challenge online interactive game and a take-home activity, Feed the PigFamily Goal, for the students to work through with family members. Teachers may order printed copies or download the curriculum free of charge at the Feed the Pig for Tweens website (www.feedthepig.org/tweens). More than 35,000 kits have ordered since August 2008, reaching as estimated 1 million students.
The curriculum was honored with a 2010 Learning Magazine’s Teacher Choice Award and named Curriculum of the Year (K-12, Money Management) by the 2009 Education in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Awards.
