What information do we collect?

Collected information can be divided into two distinct categories: personal information and passive information. We collect personal and passive information that helps us deliver the quality services you have come to expect from AICPA. Some of the personal information we collect includes demographic data such as, but not limited to, your name, age / date of birth, email address, home and business address, and telephone numbers. In order to process purchases and services, we collect credit card and bank account information. We also collect personal information from authors, vendors and contractors via purchased or rented lists.  Passive information is gathered through the use of cookies while using our websites. Passive information such as (but not limited to) Internet Protocol (IP) address, computer type, operating system, internet service providers, website usage, referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, number of clicks, advertisement viewing and performance are used to personalize the content to better serve you and other website users.

How do we use the information we collect?

Personal information is collected in order to deliver the membership, conference, purchase and other services that are associated directly with you and/or your business.  We also use this information to market new services and products that may be of interest to our members/customers.

 

Passive information is used for website performance and analytical purposes. One such use is to determine online marketing campaign effectiveness.

Is my information shared?

Sharing information is vital to providing quality service to our members. We share your information with third parties such as state CPA societies, NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) and other groups/partners. This sharing of information helps verify membership, conduct business between AICPA and CPA.com affiliated organizations and market products to our members/customers.

Can I prevent my information from being shared?

Yes.  We provide you the option to “opt out” of certain communication, including all marketing and promotional emails, via “My Account” on aicpa.org, by contacting the Member Service Center at 1.888.777.7077 (9 am – 6 pm EST, M-F) or by emailing service@aicpa.org. Alternatively, you can “unsubscribe” from the specific marketing and promotional email by following the “unsubscribe” instructions at the bottom of the email.

 

In addition, you can opt out of receiving future e-mailed messages or newsletters from CPA.com by changing your preferences in the “Preference Center,” which can be accessed from the “My Account” section of the AICPA.org site.

How do we use your information for advertisements?

We partner with various third party advertisers, including Google and DoubleClick, who use cookies to display ads based on your browsing sessions. Google and DoubleClick are both members of the Network Advertising Initiative (http://www.networkadvertising.org) which can provide more information on how they handle behavioral based advertising.

How can I control the use of my information?

There are several ways in which you can control information that is collected online by AICPA. One way to control information collected is to only provide the minimum information necessary to complete transactions and not providing the optional information. Another way is to disable cookies for our website and/or your web browser; however, this may cause some features and functions of the website to not function properly. You can opt out of behavioral advertising through the Network Advertising Initiative’s (NAI) “Opt-out Tool” at http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices or by following the steps outlined in the section “Can I prevent my information from being shared?” included above.
