LAS VEGAS (Jan. 12, 2011) — The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has named Irv Rothenberg, CPA/PFS, of Santa Rosa, Calif., recipient of the 2010 Personal Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award.
Rothenberg received the award at the Institute’s 2011 Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference Tuesday evening in Las Vegas. The AICPA gives the PFP Distinguished Service Award annually to an AICPA volunteer who significantly contributes to the advancement of personal financial planning as a practice discipline.
“Irv exemplifies the best of the CPA financial planning profession,” said James Metzler, AICPA vice president for small firm interests. “He has made enormous contributions through the years to establish the CPA financial planner as the premier financial advisor and has demonstrated a commitment to financial literacy that is unmatched. He is a role model for financial planners everywhere.”
Rothenberg, a CPA since 1963, has given almost half a century of service to clients and the CPA community. He is a former board member of the National Endowment for Financial Education, has served on the AICPA’s personal financial planning executive committee and is a frequent speaker and panel member at state and national financial planning conferences across the country. Indeed, he’s attended every AICPA personal financial planning annual conference save one – and that’s only because he got stuck in the Dallas airport en route to San Antonio because of an ice storm.
Rothenberg has been included on Worth magazine’s list of the “Best Financial Advisors in America,” recognized by Medical Economics as one of the “Best Financial Planners for Doctors,” and identified by Accounting Today as one of the “Names to Know” in Financial Planning. Rothenberg is a frequent contributor to Sonoma-area radio on topics of financial literacy and is a committee member of the Sonoma County Financial Literacy Headquarters. He also serves on the California Society of CPAs’ personal financial planning committee; the board of the Sonoma State University Academic Foundation; and the Investment Advisory Committee of the Community Foundation of Sonoma County.
Rothenberg is founder and managing principal of Wealth Management Consultants in Santa Rosa, the heart of Sonoma County wine country in Northern California. A graduate of George Washington University, Rothenberg lives in Santa Rosa with his wife, Coleen. He has two children, a son, Dr. Steven Rothenberg, who is chief of pediatric surgery at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver, and a daughter, Karly Rothenberg, who is a professor of improvisational theater at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Hollywood.
