Future of many tax breaks up in air at year’s end

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that taxpayers are once again fretting over whether Congress will extend a long list of tax breaks set to expire on December 31. There are 57 on this year’s list. The on-again, off-again nature of the provisions is wreaking havoc on individuals, businesses and their accountants, wrote the newspaper’s “Net Worth” columnist Kathleen Pender. “Without any certainty, it’s hard to legally and prudently plan your business affairs,” AICPA Vice President for Taxation Edward Karl told Pender.
