AICPA Turns Students On to
Business and Accounting

The AICPA developed “The Turnaround Game” (www.theturnaroundgame.com), a Web-based interactive business simulation that introduces students to the CPA’s role in business by having them compete to devise the best strategy for saving a record company from bankruptcy. The game is the latest installment in an ongoing series of promotions, contests, games and simulations in the Institute’s Start Here, Go Places recruitment campaign (www.startheregoplaces.com). “We’re reaching out to younger audiences to give them a sense of what being a CPA is all about,” said AICPA President and CEO Barry C. Melancon. “‘The Turnaround Game’ clearly demonstrates the challenges and rewards CPAs face every day.”

Educator/Researcher Lauded for
Management Insights
Robert S. Kaplan, PhD., received the 2006 Lifetime Contribution Award from the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA). The AICPA sponsors the citation, which recognizes individuals who have made a significant mark on management accounting education, research and practice. Kaplan, the Baker Foundation Professor at Harvard Business School, was honored for his work on linking cost and performance management systems to strategy implementation and operational excellence. He is a past recipient of the AAA Outstanding Educator Award and the CIMA Award from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (based in the United Kingdom). The AICPA and the CIMA recently collaborated on “Developments in Management Accounting,” a series of white papers.
