In Showcase Your Company and Promote Your Brand, I showed you how to use Facebook to build a community for your organization. This community could include employees, clients, referral sources, vendors and other fans. Your Facebook Page can be used to communicate to and interact with your fans.
In this article, I reveal what you should be doing with your company’s Facebook Page.
Advertise Your Facebook Page
I assume that almost all of CPA firms have a corporate website. This is the first place where you should advertise your firm’s Facebook page. You can do this by adding the Facebook logo with a hyperlink to your Facebook page. Alternately, you can add the words “Follow us on Facebook” and link those words to your Facebook page.
To see an example of this, check out the Maryland Association of CPAs website. The site has a section called “Follow Us” that links to their:
- Facebook Page
- Twitter Page
- YouTube Channel
- LinkedIn Group
In addition to your corporate website, you can also link to your Facebook page from your Twitter Page and your corporate blogs. I would recommend adding links to your Facebook Page in your monthly newsletters and client e-mails.
Get Your Vanity URL
By default, Facebook assigns a URL to your Page that looks something like this:
This ugly URL can be changed to a vanity URL that will make it easier for you to refer people to your Facebook Page. For example, you can change the URL so that it looks something like this:
Are you wondering how you change the URL for your Facebook Page? I thought you might be, so I have divulged the required steps below:
- Navigate to http://www.facebook.com/username
- Select the “Select a username” for your page’s hyperlink
- Select your page from the “Page Name” dropdown box
- Enter the desired username in the text box
- Click “Check Availability”
- Read the warnings and, if appropriate, click “Confirm”
Monitor Visitor Statistics
You built your Facebook Page, invited your friends, started a discussion and posted information that you hope is relevant to your fans. Now, you are left wondering if anyone is listening. You need not wonder any longer. Facebook has updated their Insights Dashboard to provide analytics about Facebook pages. Information about the updated analytics can be found in this blog post. The Facebook Insights Dashboard shows you information about your fans and their interactions with your Facebook Page.
