New York (October 31, 2012) – The American Institute of CPAs today announced ten recipients of the 2012-2013 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship. This annual award is offered to undergraduate and graduate-level accounting majors who aspire to become CPAs, demonstrate academic excellence and show exceptional leadership. Each recipient will receive a $2,500 award for the academic year.
The 2012-2013 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship recipients are:

· Cassandra Gengler, Baruch College
· Edmund Hawes, University of Texas at Austin
· Carrie Munns, Eastern Washington University
· Kari Notton, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
· Kirsten Phillips, University of Michigan
· Theodore Schlanger, Vanderbilt University
· Steven Stefanko, University of Michigan
· Kathleen Woods, Vanderbilt University
· Logan Weiland, Miami University
“These deserving recipients of the AICPA/Accountemps Scholarship serve as models for the caliber of students who will become the CPAs who are most in demand,” said Jeannie Patton, AICPA Vice President - Students, Academics & Membership. “Their hard work and leadership ability will serve the accounting profession for years to come and keep CPAs positioned as trusted advisors.”
The ten scholarship recipients were chosen from more than 430 applicants. Eligible applicants must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 and completed at least 30 semester hours in college-level coursework, including six semester hours in accounting. A task force comprised of AICPA and Accountemps representatives selected the recipients based on their applications, academic performance, essays and letters of recommendation.
