Alert: Fraudulent Email Scam Under Investigation

On Thursday, February 16, 2012, the AICPA became aware that it was a target of a fraudulent email phishing scam that was sent to numerous individuals, CPAs, non-CPAs and members of the general public. The email incorporated an AICPA banner and referenced the recipient’s possible involvement in an unlawful income tax refund activity, and instructed the recipient to click on a link to provide clarifying information. The fraudulent email is not from the AICPA.

If you receive the email, delete it immediately. We are working with law enforcement and other organizations targeted by the email scam to identify the source.

If you clicked on the link in the email, we suggest you run a full virus scan of your system. Even if you did not click on the link, it is always prudent to make sure your virus protection is up to date.

To speak with an AICPA member service specialist regarding this matter, call 888.777.7077 and select option 1.
