IRS Practice & Procedures

The IRS Practices and Procedures Committee acts as the AICPA’s primary liaison with the IRS to improve the current tax administration system for the benefit of members, clients, the public and the government by:

    • Maintaining ongoing communications with the IRS, the CPA practitioner community and the state CPA societies on matters affecting the federal tax administration, especially through the annual National CPA/IRS Tax Issues meeting.

    • Informing the IRS about issues of concern to members, and proposing solutions for tax administration and IRS organizational problems that are responsive to member needs.
    • Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments related to procedural and general administrative matters and submitting technical and policy recommendations to Congress, Department of the Treasury, the IRS and the General Accounting Office.
    • Reviewing federal tax forms, instructions, publications and taxpayer educational materials and recommending improvements and simplifications.
    • Developing products and services to assist members in tax practice and communicating with them, including through periodic articles in The Tax Adviser.
