Laura Coome 

South Dakota CPA Society 

Laura is the current Executive Director of the South Dakota CPA Society where she has been in that position since 1993.  Prior to that, Laura worked for the South Dakota Department of Revenue as an Audit Manager for 16 years.  She received her BA from the University of South Dakota majoring in accounting with a minor in math.

Laura is a Past President of CPA/SEA.  CPA/SEA is the national association of executive directors for the 54 CPA membership organizations.  She had previously been a Director on the CPA/SEA Board from 1999-2001 and then again from 2004-2009, serving as the President from 2007-2008.  In addition, she was a member of the Board of Directors of both SSLLC and SSNI, and the AM4 Advisory Board, which are all related to national CPA Society endeavors.  Laura served as the Chair of Interchange in 2000.

Laura has been very active with the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors from 2005-2008, including serving as the Treasurer from 2007-2008.  In 2007-2008 Laura was also a member of the Forward Sioux Falls Management Committee.  Laura has been a liaison to the Small Business Council, Issues Management Council and Diplomat Committee.  She also currently serves on their Tax Council and Issues Management Council and is a former Chair of both those Committees and was recently selected to serve on the Leadership Sioux Falls Executive Committee.

In addition, Laura was the Treasurer for a newly formed non-profit, Lunch Is Served Inc. which prepares lunches for the working poor from 2005-2009.  During the startup, Laura obtaining their 501(c)3 exemption, sales tax exemption, co-partnered in obtaining grant funding and United Way Partner Agency status. Laura performed all monetary functions for LIS during that times frame, including setting up their books, budgets, as well as all the record keeping, taxes, budgets and financial statements.

Laura serves on the Audit Committee of VOA and Finance Committee of Face It Sioux Falls.

Laura volunteers at the St Francis House, a homeless shelter, and has for the Avera Dougherty Hospice House on a regular basis. She is a member/treasurer for Xi Alpha Epsilon Sorority and plays Bunco in four different groups.
