George is the managing partner of Bert Smith & Co. and has over 32 years of public accounting experience. He has substantial experience in the audits of federal, state and local governments, not-for-profit, healthcare, educational institutional and private sector organizations.
George has been named for a number of years as one of the "Top 100 Most Influential Practitioners" by CPA Magazine. Accounting Today has previously given George a similar recognition on a number of occasions. George received the 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award in the field of Business and Community Service from Howard University.
George was also presented with the Special Vision 21 award by the Howard University School Business at its 35th Anniversary Celebration.
George has testified before various regulatory and legislative bodies on many significant accounting and auditing issues, most recently to the U.S. Department of The Treasury Advisory Committee on “The Audit Profession.” He has also been a frequent speaker at numerous forums on the challenges affecting the accounting profession.
George professional memberships include: American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) Executive Committee, the U.S. Government Accountability Office's Advisory Council on Government Auditing Standards, Council - American University Kogod School of Business, Board of Investment Trustees - Montgomery County Employee Retirement Plans, and the Board of Visitors - Howard University School of Business. George has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the AICPA, and the Board of Examiners – (CPA Examination). He is also served on various AICPA committees including: the Minority Initiatives (chairman) and Nominations. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the University of the District of Columbia and the Board of Governors of the Greater Washington Society of CPAs.
A former assistant professor of accounting at Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia, George holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree (Magna Cum Laude) in accounting from Howard University and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in finance from American University.
George's governmental clients include the District of Columbia Government, the US Virgin Islands Government, and Federal government agencies, including the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
