Template Bylined Article

by PFP Section and AICPA
Published October 25, 2004

This template of a bylined article is designed to be customized by you for submission to local newspapers, magazines, or business journals. The article, which you can customize by adding your name, affiliations, and contact information, provides valuable information about what people affected by disasters need to do and where they can go for help.

The purpose of the bylined article is to provide information to the public about an issue that is authored by you or a member of your firm and published by the press. In this case, the byline should provide the public with information about what people affected by disasters need to do and where to go for help.

 Instructions for Use:

Step 1: Fill in the blanks within the document (your name, title, CPA firm name, boilerplate information about your firm, and media contact information).

Step 2: Identify the business editor or consumer editor of your local newspaper(s), magazine(s) and/or business journal and obtain their contact details.  You can do this by looking in an issue of the publication, calling the publication directly and requesting the information, or going online to the publication's Web site and looking for the appropriate editor(s).

Step 3: After you obtain the name and address of the editor or business editor, send him/her the document via the U.S. Mail. Make sure your contact information is on the document.  They will call you if interested in publishing the byline article to confirm your authorship.
