AICPA Advanced PFP Conference: Your Best Investment for 2014

    January 20-22, Las Vegas, Nevada

This event has passed. Links to access conference recordings will be available for attendees soon.

As a CPA working in financial, retirement, tax, investment, risk management, and estate planning, you have many options for education and learning. Yet, year after year, attendees say the AICPA’s Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference is, by far, the best way to gain the latest technical expertise, key updates, strategies, and truly energize their practice.

Perhaps they love this conference because it’s held in January when we typically think about setting goals for the new year … or it could be the more than 60 speakers and presenters who provide technical knowledge and know-how for building your business and serving your clients.

Bob Veres, editor of Inside Information and a speaker at this year’s conference, summed up his own experience in a special edition of his newsletter published just after the 2012 conference:

“Tax and planning professionals from all around the country were the first to hear about the techniques that they would be using with their clients in the coming year. Year in, year out, the annual PFP meeting provides some of the best technical insights. This year it added the additional (albeit geeky) excitement of exploring a new and complex planning terrain. The combination produced a number of extraordinary sessions.”

All financial planning professionals need to stay current on the latest trends and regulations; this conference is a way to keep up-to-date on these topics with these four tracks:

    • Wealth Management and Tax
    • Retirement/Elder Planning
    • Investment Management
    • Practice Management and Technology

    Keynote/featured speakers include:

    • Rebecca Patterson, managing director and chief investment officer, Bessemer Trust
    • Simon Sinek, author, Start With Why
    • Peter Zeihan, president, Zeihan on Geopolitics
    • Terrence Odean, University of California, Berkley

In addition to the conference, there are additional unique learning opportunities:

    • Implementing Personal Financial Planning Services: Step-by-Step Plans for Success – Boost your knowledge of the fundamentals and learn how to build a successful PFP practice, create new revenue streams, deepen client relationships and increase client retention from practice management, technology, and compliance experts and a panel of success CPAs representing diverse business models. This is a two-day workshop on January 18 and 19.

    • What the Sophisticated CPA, Lawyer, and Financial Planner Need to Know About Planning for IRAs – Presented by Robert S. Keebler, CPA, MST, AEP (Distinguished) of Keebler & Associates LLP, refine your PFP skills and get essential know-how for planning for IRAs during your clients’ lifetimes and planning for IRAs at death. This is a one-day workshop on January 19.

    • Marketing and Advisory Systems You Can Use Next Week That Will Save You Time, Reduce Stress and Bring in More Business With Less Effort — In this workshop on January 19, Randy Thurman, CPA/PFS, CFP® and Jimmy Williams, CPA/PFS, CFP®, discuss client-focused marketing programs they have implemented in their practices, all with great success. Attend this session and learn how a more focused marketing program will positively impact your practice now and in the future. Note this session is not included as part of the conference; there is an additional fee to attend.

    • CPA/PFS Media Training — Presented by the AICPA’s Media Relations team, this free four-hour session is available exclusively to CPA/PFS credential holders and is an interactive session with hands-on training on developing relationships with local journalists and giving effective interviews.
