In March 2013, the Supreme Court listened to arguments on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act and of California’s Proposition 8. Despite recent changes in many states allowing same-sex marriages, the preparation of a sound financial plan continues to be complex. Regardless of the June 26th, CPA financial planners and tax practitioners need to be prepared to advise their clients on the financial planning and tax implications facing same-sex couples.
In this webcast, Tom Tillery and Jonathan Horn will discuss:
- An overview of the Supreme Court’s decision and what it means for your clients
- How federal and state law will apply to estate, retirement, income tax, health and welfare benefits plans
- What changes to consider in planning and tax return preparation as a result of the Supreme Court decision
