CFF and ABV Examinations 


A woman preparing for the CFF and ABV examinationsThe Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) Section offers two credentials: the Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) credential and the  Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential. In order to become a CFF or ABV credential holder, interested candidates must successfully pass the CFF Exam or ABV Exam and meet minimum experience and education requirements.  For more information about each examination, such as the registration and scheduling process, test center locations, exam preparation, access to the Content Specification Outlines, and more, please visit CFF Exam or ABV Exam

Spring 2013 - deadline is June 1, 2013
Fall 2013 - deadline is November 1, 2013

Spring Exam Window: July 1 - July 31, 2013

Exam Length

The CFF Exam duration is 4 hours (no break provided);
The
ABV Exam
duration is 6 hours (additional 45 minute break provided)

Exam Format

Both exams are computer-based examinations that consist of discrete multiple choice questions and case study-related multiple choice questions. These exams are offered at the Kryterion High-Stakes Online Secured Testing (HOST) centers.

 

CFF Body of Knowledge

The three major areas of the body of knowledge covered in the CFF exam consist of:

  • Professional Responsibilities and Practice Management
  • Fundamental Forensic Knowledge (e.g., Laws, Courts and Dispute Resolution, Planning and Preparation, Information Gathering and Preserving Discovery, Reporting, Experts and Testimony) 
  • Specialized Forensic Knowledge (e.g., Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Reorganization, Computer Forensic Analysis, Economic Damages Calculations, and more)


ABV Body Knowledge

The three major areas of the body of knowledge covered in the ABV exam consist of: 

  • Qualitative and Quantitative analysis (Sources of Economic & Industry Data, Macro-Environmental Analysis, Industry Analysis, and Subject Entity Analysis)
  • Valuation Analysis (Levels of Value Appropriate to the Engagement; Valuation Approaches; Discounts, Premiums, and Other Adjustments; and Reconciliation of Indicated Values)
  • Related Topics (Defining the Engagement, Professional Standards, Financial Reporting, Litigation Services, Case Law, Intellectual Property, FLPs & LLCs, ESOPs, Special Classes of Securities, and Reporting
