AICPA Announces Creation of the CGMA Credential for Management Accountants |
|
| |
Dear Financial Leader,
At yesterday’s governing Council meeting, the AICPA’s business, industry and government members received a big boost in recognition for the value they provide to organizations around the world. Council unanimously approved the creation of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) credential, which will recognize the unique competencies and expertise of management accountants, while promoting the U.S. CPA worldwide. Qualifying AICPA voting members will have the most favored pathway for obtaining the new credential.
The new CGMA credential will be promoted and supported by a joint venture between the AICPA and the London-based Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), which will be responsible for managing the joint venture brand, advocating on behalf of the public and management accountancy, and executing joint operations as determined.
You will be hearing more about this in the June issue of BusIndNews and in the months to come. Let me share key highlights:
- For AICPA voting members, the CGMA will be available exclusively through the AICPA. CIMA members will receive the credential through that organization.
- The credential will be launched in the first quarter of 2012.
- AICPA voting members will be automatically eligible for the credential upon verifying three years of qualifying experience.
- Dedicated resources, a website and an online community, as well as a competency self-assessment platform, are being developed to enhance CGMAs’ knowledge and skills throughout their careers and ensure they remain relevant and valued in a rapidly changing business world.
- The U.S. CPA credential will be promoted alongside the CGMA through CIMA’s existing and future distribution channels and offices worldwide.
This credential signifies a standard of excellence for highly qualified business leaders who are committed to delivering value to organizations with integrity and competence. I hope you will seriously consider this credential to enhance your career and distinguish yourself within the profession.
To learn more about this exciting news and the CGMA, I invite you to read the press release and view the video from AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon, CPA.
Sincerely,
Carol Scott, CPA, MBA
