Call for nominations for AICPA
Outstanding CPA in Government Award |
|
|
Dear Financial Leader,
Since 1996, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has recognized CPAs working in the federal, state and local levels of government who have made significant contributions to increased efficiency and effectiveness of government organizations and to the growth and enhancement of the profession through the Outstanding CPA in Government Award. To ensure recognition among the three levels of government, each year, the AICPA awards one CPA working in each level of government—local, state, and federal.
I encourage all of you to promote this opportunity within your government entity, with your colleagues, and in your professional organizations. To acknowledge and celebrate those working in government who have made a sustained and significant contribution to their organization, please nominate them for the AICPA’s Outstanding CPA in Government Award. Other criteria used to judge this award include having made a significant contribution to state and national professional organizations and made the significant contribution(s) in the level of government for which nominated; and having demonstrated leadership to the profession outside of his/her government organization. The nomination period for 2012 is now open. Please download an application here and submit it by May 11, 2012. For more information on this award, access here.
Given our current resource-constrained, budgetary climate in all levels of government, CPAs in government are uniquely skilled and positioned to help the government, at all levels, improve the Nation’s current fiscal condition. How so? For starters, CPAs at all levels of government possess the CPA—the “gold standard” in financial, business, audit, and tax matters—which represents the rigorous academic preparation and testing they’ve undergone. CPAs in government commit to maintaining professional competence through life-long learning and training. They also possess the analytical skills required for being able to see more than just mere numbers on a page but the implications of those numbers for governmental entities in both the short and long term.
Past award recipients have noted their love for public service and that this award provides the AICPA a chance to publicize the contributions CPAs make to the public good. Such recognition helps the whole profession and uplifts the public’s spirit by just knowing that everyday thousands of CPAs are watching out for the public’s best interest. Past award recipients demonstrate that CPAs in government respond to our Nation’s challenges at all levels.
Sincerely,
Martha S. Mavredes
