AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students 


Scholarship Overview
The AICPA Minority Scholarship awards outstanding minority students to encourage their selection of accounting as a major and their ultimate entry into the profession. For over four decades, this program has provided over $14.6 million in scholarships to approximately 8,000 accounting scholars. Funding is provided by the AICPA Foundation, with contributions from the following organizations:

  • Accounting Education Foundation of Texas Society of CPAs
  • New Jersey Society of CPAs
  • Robert Half International

2012-13 Minority Scholarship Recipients
For the 2012-13 academic year, 84 accounting students were awarded a total of $254,500. These outstanding students demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership and commitment to pursuing the CPA.

Scholarship Amount/Payments
Recipients receive individual awards of up to $5,000 per academic year. Scholarship aid may be used only for the payment of expenses that directly relate to obtaining an accounting education. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the student's financial aid office on behalf of the student at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

How do I apply to the Minority Scholarship?
The 2013-14 application will be available in December 2012.

When is the deadline for the 2012-13 Minority Scholarship application?
The 2013-14 Minority Scholarship deadline is April 1, 2013.

What is the review/selection process?
Completed applications will be reviewed and ranked by a scholarship selection task force. Recipient selection is based on academic achievement; demonstration of leadership and volunteerism; and overall commitment to becoming a licensed CPA professional.

When will applicants of the program be notified?
All applicants will be notified of final selection by August 1, 2013.

Is the AICPA Minority Scholarship renewable?
The Minority Scholarship is a renewable award. However, renewals are neither automatic nor guaranteed. Students who wish to renew their scholarship award must complete an application the following spring.
