Minority Initiatives Committee

Overview/Background

In response to the lack of minorities interested or employed in the accounting profession, the AICPA Council passed a resolution to integrate the accounting profession in 1969. As part of Council’s resolution, the AICPA Minority Initiatives Committee (MIC) was formed to carry out the resolution, which included:

  • Encouraging minority men and women of high potential to attend college and major in accounting.
  • Providing educational opportunities for minority men and women to prepare them to enter the accounting profession.
  • Encouraging hiring of minority men and women in order to integrate the accounting profession in fact as well as ideal.

Today the MIC is made up of fourteen talented, committed professionals with experiences in academia, public accounting, business and industry, and human resources. Together they continue to implement the 1969 resolution of Council by developing comprehensive programs aimed at encouraging students from underrepresented ethnic groups to become accounting majors and ultimately obtain the CPA designation.
