Arleen R. Thomas, CPA, CGMA 

Senior Vice President, Management Accounting & Global Markets 

 

Arleen R. Thomas is Senior Vice President of Management Accounting and Global Markets at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).  Arleen is responsible for the AICPA’s service to our approximately 140,000 members that work for corporations, businesses and government.  She leads the team responsible for the Chartered Global Management Accounting (CGMA) designation in the global and US marketplace.  She is the primary lead on the AICPA’s joint venture with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in London.   Also, she leads the team that develops and grades the domestic and international Uniform CPA Examination. 
 
Arleen is the Chair of the XBRL International Board of Directors, and serves in various volunteer capacities in her community. 

Ms. Thomas has served in various positions at the AICPA, including Senior Vice President of Member Competency and Development, Vice President of Professional Standards and Services and Vice President of Self-Regulations and the SEC Practice Section.  She joined the AICPA as Director of Accounting Standards, serving as the technical advisor to the U.S. representatives on the International Accounting Standards Committee.  Prior to the AICPA, Ms. Thomas was a senior manager at KPMG LLP in the department of professional practice.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado.  She is a frequent speaker at professional conferences and has published numerous articles.  She and her husband have two children.
