Accounting Education and Outreach

A Good Education is the Gateway to a Successful and Meaningful Career
The AICPA Foundation is devoted to supporting quality accounting education, and a major focus is the support of accounting research. Support is provided for the AICPA Library, which is located at and maintained by the University of Mississippi and provides a valuable service to thousands of AICPA members annually.

Through the Foundation endowment, CPAs pursuing their PhDs in accountancy are also supported. The Foundation's support provides numerous opportunities to conduct valuable research; whether determining how to better connect community colleges with top accounting programs or the most effective way to utilize cross-sabbaticals and internships for faculty and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Striving to increase the supply of PhD accounting faculty and helping experienced CPA professionals transition from practice to the classroom as faculty members are also key priorities of the AICPA Foundation.

Accounting Education Programs funded by the AICPA Foundation

    Accounting Doctoral Scholars (ADS) Program

The most significant initiative in the profession's history, the ADS program represents a partnership between the AICPA Foundation and the leaders of 67 of the nation’s largest CPA firms, 48 state CPA societies and other organizations that have committed nearly $17 million to fund an additional 120 PhD candidates in auditing and tax.

AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students

The Minority Doctoral Fellowship ensures that CPAs of diverse backgrounds are visible in college and university classrooms.  The program's goal is to increase the number of minority CPAs who serve as role models and mentors to young people in the academic environment.

     AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship

In honor of John L. Carey, these scholarships provide financial assistance to liberal arts undergraduate students pursuing graduate accounting studies at a college or university with an accredited business administration program.

    AICPA Accounting Competition

This program ensures a bright future and new opportunities for the next generation of CPAs through real-world experience and increasing awareness between accounting and sustainability efforts.
